Woody is overwhelmed to announce that Roadgas have not only continued their support for W7s but they have increased it due to the growth of the event and the size of the female Match Official team that helps to run the event.
Woody knows one thing is certain, he doesn’t know everything. This is why it is important to him to build a referee team that becomes part of the volunteer group that creates W7s, helps him to provide a fun and safe playing environment and is more than just “the referee that turns up”.
Woody has worked hard to build a team of female referees, not just to make sure that they are given the platform that they deserve but to also inspire the girls on the pitch. The team has gone from 5 women who turned up not fully knowing what was in store for them to a large team who proudly wear the W7s kit because it is as much their event as it is Woody’s.
The referee team has taken on it’s own life over the years, it is now a group of female referees who support each other, socialise together and continues to want to impact the players and each other.
This is why it is important to continually grow the team, be that with complete newbies looking to develop themselves or experienced referees looking to impact the players and their fellow referees whilst having a fantastic weekend.
So, if you fancy joining the team then just complete the online form.
Woody knows that building a girls section is difficult but it helps having a stream of players coming through the age groups. It is therefore important to have a good sized U12s but how do you enthuse girls to get involved and give rugby a try?
Socials are a great recruitment tool, as is being visible on social media, but you can’t beat a good rugby tour. Touring is a long standing tradition for rugby and most of the ex-players around your club will be able to tell you tale after tale about their past tours.
For small clubs, or clubs starting out on their girls journey, touring and socials are not easy due to low number but Scrumchic and Woody want to help grow the female side of our sport and to do that they are offering girls a chance to win the following as they look to build a barbarians team: 1 U12 player ticket 1 Adult spectator ticket 1 Vehicle Pass 1 Match shirt
So if you are a parent of an U12 girl or a coach or age group manager of an U12s side then we would like to invite you to enter our barbarians competition to win them a FREE tour. We are looking for 15 players to join our team and all you have to do to be in with a chance of joining us is: 1 Like and Follow W7s 2 Like and Follow Scrumchic 3 Tag 3 friends
